The Ultimate BC COR Audit Checklist: Are You Missing These 5 Documents?

Safety Manager reviewing audit documents

The Audit is Won in the Files

A COR auditor doesn't just look at your job site; they look at your history. If you can't prove it happened, in the eyes of WorkSafeBC, it didn't happen.

Before you book your external auditor, ensure you have these five categories of documentation organized and accessible.

1. Management Commitment & Policy

You need more than a signed safety manual. You need proof that management is involved. * Check: Are your safety goals signed and dated for the current year? * Check: Is there a record of management reviewing the safety system annually?

2. Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment

This is the #1 area where companies lose points. * Check: Do you have "Field Level Hazard Assessments" (FLHAs) for every crew, for every day? * Check: Are the hazards identified actually linked to the safe work procedures in your manual?

3. Inspections & Maintenance

The auditor will look for a "closed loop." * Check: If an inspection found a broken ladder in March, is there a record showing it was repaired or replaced in March?

4. Worker Training & Orientation

The "Random Sample" test. The auditor will pick a name from your payroll and ask for their records. * Check: Can you produce a signed orientation and valid training tickets for any employee within 60 seconds?

5. JHSC / Safety Representative Records

For companies with 20+ employees, the Joint Health and Safety Committee is vital. * Check: Do you have 12 months of meeting minutes, and were they posted for workers to see?

How to Pass Without the Stress
